Having been blessed with 13 different dogs in my life, I have noticed a few things that don’t seem to get noticed by most other dog owners. I will list a few things here.
LETS TALK ABOUT COLLARS.
For some, and most of my babies, the neck collar seems to always rotate so the hard metal clasp and leash hook to below their chin. This is uncomfortable for some. So when you pet them, remember to scratch lightly under their collar all around their neck.
NEVER use a neck collar with a leash!!! Especially if it is a small dog. I have had 4 dogs die painful deaths because the folks who owned my rescues before me used a regular collar for their leash which crushed their tracheas to some degree. Throughout their years the wheezing and coughing got worse and worse until the only option was to put them down. There are many “choke free” harnesses out there. USE THEM! Know there are uses for collars. I always have collars on my dogs because my pet’s chip maker offers collars with names, ID#, and their 1800 phone number printed on them, which will lead them back to me. They are visible and with my latest Pom “Blue” who is deaf, the collar has this on it “Blue *DEAF*” which can be easily seen when in close proximity… if I keep his hair cut short around his collar.
